VHP, Bajrang Dal staff detained for protesting in opposition to temple demolition in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk

New Delhi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal members have been detained by police throughout a protest on Tuesday over the demolition of a Hanuman temple at Chandni Chowk in Delhi.

The temple was demolished on Sunday by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation in accordance with courtroom orders as a part of the continued Chandni Chowk beautification plan.

The protesters, carrying saffron flags and elevating slogans, took out a march from the Gauri Shankar Mandir to the positioning the place the temple existed. They have been stopped by police at a barricade.

According to VHP spokesperson Mahendra Rawat, round 15-20 staff and leaders, together with its Delhi unit president Kapil Khanna, vp Surendra Gupta, secretary Ravi and Bajrang Dal state convener Bharar Batra have been detained through the protest.

A senior police official stated 27 protesters who gathered close to the Gauri Shankar temple on Tuesday have been detained owing to COVID-19 tips. They have been taken to a close-by police station and launched later.

These protesters belonged to Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal outfits, the official stated.

As a precautionary measure, safety personnel have been deployed within the space, police stated.
